Almeria vs Girona: Can Girona Impress Again?

The new beginning of the 2023-24 La Liga season starts this weekend. Almeria and Girona will participate in one of the most important games of their season at Estadio Mediterraneo on Sunday. La Liga, Girona is absolutely excelling and now the city stands second. This week, they played and won a game in the Copa del Rey by which they scored 2-0. They plan to perform as well in their upcoming game.

However, Almeria does not have a good season. They lie at the foot of the table and failed to fulfill promises. They lost narrowly to Osasuna in their last game and will need to deliver much more this weekend.

Head-to-Head Statistics of Almeria vs Girona Teams

Almeria has some good history against Girona in recent times. They have won ten of the last 23 games they played against Girona and Girona has managed to win seven.

In La Liga, the home team has won all three games between Girona and Almeria, with Girona winning two of these matches. There have been 20 goals scored in these matches cumulatively, which is the highest average for total number of goals ever recorded

As far as away games are concerned, Girona was in a pretty rough patch, not having won on six straight occasions against Almeria in all competitions. But they have picked up recently, drawing three consecutive away games against Almeria.

However, Almeria has recently been underperforming in La Liga. They have not got any of their last 22 matches – one of the longest losing streaks in the competition only overtaken by Sporting Gijon and Levante.

Team News: Almeria vs Girona

If Girona do not lose to Almeria in Sunday’s match at Power Horse Stadium, then they can become the best club in La Liga.

At this point, Girona is ranked second in the league, equal on points to Real Madrid. However, in the league table Almeria is at the very bottom and hasn’t won any game this season yet.

This game may not be easy for Girona, and we would not be really astonished if it ended in a draw between Almeria on Sunday. Nevertheless, Girona has been on a winning streak in recent matches, therefore we predict them to claim an important victory during this match.

Almeria will be without Idrissu Baba due to being on international duty, but otherwise they should field their strongest side. Both Gonzalo Melero and Luis Suarez, starting players who are still recovering from injuries, will not play for a few more weeks because they haven’t recovered yet.

On the side of Girona, Viktor Tsygankov is injured and will not be able to participate in this match. Meanwhile, Valery Fernandez, who netted in Girona's most recent 4-3 win against Atletico, will feature on the left side of midfield. The placement of Pablo Torre in midfield should be upheld. Artem Dovbyk, who was named the La Liga Player of the Month for December, is on fire and should spearhead the Girona attack.
