Bournemouth 0-1 Chelsea: Nkunku's Late Goal Secures Victory After Sanchez's Penalty Heroics

Substitute Christopher Nkunku netted a late game-winner to give Chelsea a narrow 1-0 victory against Bournemouth in the English Premier League match. The result showed Enzo Maresca’s side go above Bournemouth to occupy seventh place on the table. Chelsea is on seven points after four games while Bournemouth is on five points.

The match was very much eventful and physical and saw the players receive 14 yellow cards, a Premier League record. However, Chelsea was able to maintain concentration, as they registered their first away clean sheet in 18 games, and this was made possible by the great performance of their goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. The Spanish keeper was very busy, especially in the first half where he had to make a spectacular save from a penalty by Bournemouth's new signing Evanilson.

The Cherries were very active in the match as they were able to shoot at goal 19 times in the course of the match. They twice hit the posts, the first one was Marcus Tavernier, whose shot hit the crossbar in the first four minutes of the match. Nevertheless, the Cherries’ pressure and numerous opportunities did not lead them to a goal.

Nkunku, who was introduced in the last quarter of the match, spent only seven minutes on the pitch before scoring the goal. He showed great calmness and technique to get away from three defenders before, gently, putting the ball beyond Bournemouth’s goalkeeper. The assist was provided by another substitute player, Jadon Sancho, who also did well to contribute to the team when he was on the pitch.

The win is especially important for Chelsea who have not been able to maintain a clean sheet while on the road in the recent past. It was a good sign for Maresca’s side to help them move up the Premier League table further as they progress in their rebuilding process.
