In a crucial decision by the Spanish Sports Council (CSD), FC Barcelona players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor have been granted precautionary permission to play on a temporary basis. The ruling comes amidst financial struggles and registration complications for F.C. Barcelona.
The club was unable to register Olmo and Victor before last year's deadline despite securing temporary licenses for the players during the summer. This decision allows them to play until a definitive ruling is made in Barcelona's ongoing case against La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
The CSD issued a statement suspending La Liga and RFEF’s earlier decision, reinstating the validity of the players’ licenses until the appeal is resolved.
“This measure suspends the cancellation of the sports licenses of the aforementioned players and maintains the validity of said licenses until this appeal is finally resolved,” the CSD confirmed.
Both players missed Barca’s Copa del Rey round of 32 victory at Barbastro last week and are set to sit out the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Bilbao. However, they could feature in a potential final on Sunday and subsequent F.C. Barcelona matches until the CSD issues its final decision.
F.C. Barcelona faced significant challenges in registering Olmo and Victor, even after selling VIP boxes for their new Spotify Camp Nou stadium for €100 million. Despite meeting La Liga's financial fair play requirements, the licenses expired, and league regulations prevented re-registration within the same season.
Barca argues that the rule is outdated, asserting that with the transfer window open and sufficient funds now available, the players should be allowed to register.
