The first stage of ticket selling for UEFA EURO 2024 has just closed, which marks the start of what is going to be an action-packed pre-tournament for one of Europe's best football events. The ticket application, which began on October 3, 2023, coincided with Germany Unity Day, as emphasised by Philipp Lahm, the managing director, and Celia Sasic, the ambassador, during celebrations in Hamburg.

Lahm reaffirms the importance of timing by saying, "The start of ticket sales on the day of German Liberation symbolizes the purpose of the get-together, which is found in the beautiful game of football. We are not just celebrating football but the European heritage, its values, and the unity that it brings. We would like to strengthen the European unity through that universal language, which is football."

Sasic stated that it is just the start of a once-in-a-lifetime football event in Europe with a commitment to fair and universal ticket distribution. She said: "We’ve made sure that the fans get 80 percent of the tickets at prices starting from €30 and higher. This is done through simple ordering and a lottery system to give everybody a chance."

During this initial sales phase, fans could apply for over 1.2 million tickets through the official website, 1BoxOffice.com/tickets, until October 26, 2023. Organizers deliberately make it so that most of the 2.7 million total tickets will be given to fans whose price range will be kept as low as possible. For the final match alone, 10,000 tickets have been put for sale for less than €100.

Considering that it is necessary to accommodate as many fans as possible, each applicant can ask for up to four tickets per match, still being allowed to choose only one match per day. As with most other events, where tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, UEFA EURO 2024 tickets are allocated to the fans through a lottery system to ensure they are fairly distributed.

Accessibility has also been a key consideration. UEFA has made provisions for disabled fans at every match, pricing these tickets in the most affordable category and offering a complimentary ticket for a companion.

There is still hope for those who were not amongst the first crowd. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified about the opportunities to get tickets when these become available, like when other fans have yet to be able to finalise their orders. They will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. Meanwhile, after the draw of the final tournament on 2 December, one million more tickets will be sold, including fans of teams facing play-offs in March 2024.
