Everton’s Amadou Onana joins Aston Villa in £50m Premier League deal

The latest signing that Aston Villa has made is the signing of Onana from Everton for £50 million. The Belgium international has signed a five-year deal to join Villa Park in this summer transfer window and he is the seventh player to do so. Emery’s team is preparing for their comeback to the UEFA Champions League after achieving fourth place in the Premier League last season.

Amadou Onana has joined Aston Villa on a permanent deal from Everton after the club officially announced the transfer. According to BBC, the transfer fee was £50 million. The 22-year-old makes his way out of Goodison Park after two years in search of a new challenge with Emery.

Onana is the seventh new signing at Aston Villa this summer after signing like Barkley, Maatsen, Iling-Junior, and Barrenechea. Cameron Archer has also come back to the club from Sheffield United after the club was relegated. Also, Onana is the second player to join Villa from Everton in this transfer window after forward Lewis Dobbin in June.

Onana’s transfer is to replace Douglas Luiz who left for Juventus earlier in the summer. Part of that deal was that 20-year-old Iling-Junior switched in the opposite direction to Villa. At the time of writing, Onana has played 72 matches for Everton and contributed largely to the team’s stay in the 2022/2023 English Premier League season.

Internationally, Onana plays for Belgium and has had 17 appearances for The Red Devils team. He featured in all the four Euro 2024 matches of Belgium in Germany where the team was knocked out in the round of 16 by France. Emery’s tactical signings are to prepare the team for their Champions League season and to further enhance the club’s impressive top four position last season, the highest the club has achieved in the premier league since 1995/96.
