Ferencvaros 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur: Brennan Johnson records another impressive performance as Spurs bag  victory in Hungary

Brennan Johnson continued his scoring rampage as he scored the fifth goal in as many games to give Tottenham Hotspur a narrow 2-1 victory against Ferencvaros in the UEFA Europa League. Pape Matar Sarr put Spurs in front in the first half and Johnson sealed the victory for Spurs in the match's dying embers after Barnabas Varga pulled a goal back for the Hungarian team.

Tottenham’s manager Ange Postecoglou made sweeping changes to his team, with four teenagers in the starting eleven from the team that humbled Manchester United on Sunday. In the beginning, Ferencvaros applied a lot of pressure on a young Spurs side, with Guvich giving them the lead only for the home side to equalize through Barnabas Varga whose goal was disallowed for offside.

It was a reprieve that Spurs needed and they went on to take the lead in the 23rd minute when Pape Matar Sarr capitalized on a mistake in the defence line and made no mistake with his shot. In the early part of the second period, Tottenham’s keeper Guglielmo Vicario saved the match from an equalizer by Matheus Saldanha. Timo Werner and young debutant Will Lankshear also had opportunities to extend Spurs’s lead but both were stopped.

Tottenham finally got the second goal in the 86th minute through Brennan Johnson, who had been in scintillating form to score a low shot into the corner of the post to make the game virtually out of Ferencvaros’ reach. However, Varga scored just before the final whistle with a fabulous shot in the stoppage time. Spurs, however, remained defiant and kept on their winning streak in the Europa League which now saw them get two wins from two games.
