Liverpool vs Burnley: Can Liverpool Retain Their Top Spot This Weekend?

The Premier League is starting again this weekend, and one of the matches is Burnley versus Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday. Liverpool, led by Jurgen Klopp, has been playing really well lately.

Burnley is not doing well this season and is currently in 19th place in the Premier League. Last week, they tied 2-2 against Fulham and they need to improve in their upcoming match. On the flip side, Liverpool is leading the league right now and has been playing really well lately. However, they suffered a tough 3-1 loss against Arsenal in their last game and will aim to recover in this weekend's match.

Head-to-Head Statistics for Liverpool vs Burnley

When it comes to facing Burnley, Liverpool has historically done well. Out of 127 matches played between them, Liverpool has won 60 times, while Burnley has won 38 times.

In recent Premier League encounters, Liverpool has been dominant, winning 8 out of their last 10 matches against Burnley. They've also won their last four matches with a combined score of 8-0.

Burnley hasn't had much luck when playing away against Liverpool, winning only one out of their last nine matches in the Premier League at Anfield and losing six of them.

When facing teams at the top of the table, Burnley has struggled, failing to win any of their last six matches in the Premier League.

Before their recent 3-1 loss against Arsenal, Liverpool had an impressive unbeaten streak of 15 consecutive matches in the Premier League.

Liverpool has also been strong at home, maintaining an unbeaten record in their last 23 matches in the Premier League at Anfield.

Liverpool vs Burnley Preview

Liverpool's recent match at the Emirates Stadium was a defensive nightmare for them. Their impressive unbeaten streak of 11 games in all competitions and 15 matches without defeat in the Premier League ended abruptly. Despite a strange own goal from Gabriel Magalhaes briefly leveling the score, defensive errors from Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk led to Arsenal's goals, with Leandro Trossard adding insult to injury with a late strike. Adding to their woes, Ibrahima Konate's red card further soured the mood for Jurgen Klopp's team.

While Liverpool still holds the top spot in the Premier League standings, their lead over Arsenal and Manchester City has narrowed to just two points. With Manchester City having a game in hand, Liverpool could slip to second place if City win their upcoming match against Everton.

Redemption will be the aim for Liverpool as they return to Anfield, where they have remained unbeaten in their last 23 top-flight matches. However, their recent struggles to keep a clean sheet at home may give Burnley a glimmer of hope.

Team News: Liverpool vs Burnley

Liverpool will be without Konate due to a suspension after receiving two yellow cards in the last game. This gives Quansah a chance to partner with Van Dijk in defense. While Nunez, Mac Allister, and Thiago are fit to play, Szoboszlai might miss out due to a thigh issue, and Bradley's availability is uncertain due to personal reasons.

Salah, Tsimikas, Matip, and Bajcetic remain sidelined due to injuries, but Endo is back in contention after Japan's exit from the Asian Cup.

Burnley will miss Koleosho and Redmond due to long-term injuries, while Beyer is unlikely to return. However, there's hope for Taylor and Delcroix to feature. Ekdal was substituted in the last game and might be replaced by Esteve for his first start.

Fofana's performance in the previous game could earn him a spot in Burnley's attacking lineup, potentially replacing either Foster or Amdouni.

Possible Liverpool lineup:

Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, Van Dijk, Robertson; Jones, Endo, Mac Allister; Jota, Nunez, Diaz

Possible Burnley lineup:

Trafford; Assignon, O'Shea, Esteve, Vitinho; Gudmundsson, Berge, Brownhill, Odobert; Fofana, Foster
