Luka Modric: Real Madrid Star, Signs New One-Year Contract to Stay at Real Madrid Until 2025

Luka Modric agreed to sign a contract extension which keeps him at the club until June 2025. He always expressed his desire to retire at Madrid, saying in May that he still has the "physique" to continue playing. Luka Modic is considered one of the best midfielders in Real Madrid’s history, and fans will look forward for another year of the Croatian magician.

Modric has extended his contract with European champions Real Madrid, ensuring his stay at the club until June 2025. The 38-year-old’s current deal was set to expire this summer, but the Croatia midfielder has agreed to continue for another year. Since joining Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, Modric has won 26 titles at the Santiago Bernabeu, including six UEFA Champions Leagues and four La Liga titles.

Modric won the Ballon d’Or in 2018 after leading Croatia to the final of the World Cup, where they lost to France. Last season marked a shift for Modric at Madrid, with the midfield maestro transitioning towards more of a reserve role. He scored two goals and provided six assists in 46 appearances for Madrid in the 2023/24 season, with many of his contributions coming from the bench.

Towards the end of the season, Modric reiterated his desire to end his career at Madrid. “I have always said that I would like to retire at Real Madrid,” he told Spanish radio COPE in May. “It would be a dream to retire at home, at the club of my life, and I hope that happens. I have the physique and football to continue in the elite, I have no doubt.”

Modric’s long-time midfield partner Toni Kroos has already confirmed his retirement from football, with his final match coming for Germany in their loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals.
