Manchester City 5-0 Sparta Prague: Haaland Shines as Citizens Dominate in UEFA Champions League

Erling Haaland enjoyed another game of goal-scoring, helping Manchester City win the UEFA Champions League League Phase match 5-0 against Sparta Prague. This comprehensive victory sees City go third in the table after three games, with seven points. Liverpool and Aston Villa remain the only Premier League teams with a 100 % record in the competition up to this stage. With this result, City broke a new Champions League record for most number of games without a defeat and this stands at 26 games, beating the record set by Manchester United at 25 games.

City was in full control of the match from the early onset, with most of the possession, but all that they had to show for it before the half was a Phil Foden goal. Despite controlling the game, Manchester City failed to extend the lead, missing many chances.

All that changed in the second half. Erling Haaland got the ball rolling with an amazing spectacular strike which went over the head of the Sparta Prague goalkeeper, and five minutes later, the Norwegian striker scored an excellent team goal to make it 3-0. John Stones made it 4-0 with a header, and Matheus Nunes sealed the victory with a penalty after being fouled in the penalty area.

This dominant display takes Manchester City’s unbeaten run in the Champions League to 26 games, a new record in the competition, and underlines their European credentials. City will now shift their focus to their next Premier League game against Southampton to be held on the coming saturday.
