Manchester United Eyeing Tuchel as a Ten Hag Replacement

Manchester United are said to be plotting the sacking of current manager Erik ten Hag and replacing him with Thomas Tuchel, as reported in The Independent. Discussions regarding Ten Hag’s future have arisen from recent meetings between Jim Ratcliffe, Manchester United owner, and the club’s executive team.

The meeting that took place in London on Tuesday involved Sir Jim Ratcliffe telling Manchester United’s football board to think t through all possible outcomes related to Ten Hag. The discussions were centered on ways that the club could proceed if a decision is made to dismiss the Dutch coach.

However, there has been no official statement or news update, which according to Ten Hag means business as usual. He is now preparing for the next Brentford fixture.

Those around the German manager have rubbished the speculated links with Manchester United stating that there has been no communication between Tuchel and the club.

Ten Hag’s Compensation Could Pose Problems

However, according to the Daily Mail, Manchester United may live to regret sacking Erik ten Hag. If the Dutchman is fired, they will lose about £14 million, which poses a threat to the club's financial status when it comes to transfers.

Ten Hag signed a new deal in the summer after a poor league season and his current contract expires at the end of the 2025/2026 season. Despite this, it is evident that the survival of his job is only guaranteed for the rest of the season, and this means that results must improve greatly.

Considering Manchester United’s current financial status and their obligation to follow the rules of the Premier League Sustainability Rules (PSR), that compensation figure is a problem. However, if the team’s performances are not going to change in the coming fixtures, the pressure on Ten Hag will not subside.
