PIF reveals ‘striking’ stadium designs for St James’ Park in Newcastle

Newcastle United fans have been treated to stunning PIF stadium designs that will likely precede the redevelopment of St James’ Park.

After the £305 million acquisition of Newcastle United in October 2021, attention was paid to the attempts to increase the club revenue significantly more to get more freedom under the PSR and FFP rules. Newcastle CEO Darren Eales recently revealed that the club is still waiting for the outcome of the stadium redevelopment study. There have been discussions on the refurbishing of the current St James’ Park as well as on the option of finding a new location for the construction of the stadium.

 The latest move in PIF’s grand football plan indicates what Newcastle fans may be in for with their new ground. Their investment in sports started only three years ago when PIF bought Newcastle. Saudi Arabia is now officially bidding for the 2034 World Cup and it is now preparing to improve its facilities for the event after it sailed through the FIFA contest unchallenged. Football is at the peak of its popularity in Saudi Arabia, however, the organization of the biggest sporting event in the world presupposes the construction of many new facilities.

According to BBC Sport, the Saudi bidding team has revealed plans for new stadiums across the country with 11 new stadiums and improvements on some of the existing stadiums. This investment gives Newcastle fans a glimpse of what the facelift at St James’ Park will look like once the planners have finalized their plans.
