Premier League Tickets Prices Soar as Fans Protest Price Hike

Premier League 2024\2025 ticket costs have skyrocketed, and fans are planning protests before the matches in the next two match days. This season, ticket prices have increased by 19 out of the 20 clubs, with Crystal Palace being the only club that has not done this. The Football Supporters’ Association reveals that fans are facing an average of 7% increase, and this has provoked anger among fans who are tightening their belts. Some clubs have hiked even steeper, and this has further fueled the anger of the fans.

For example, Nottingham Forest has increased its ticket prices in the current season by 20%, which is higher than what was charged in the previous season. In addition to that, Tottenham cut out concession prices for the young and old fans out which the Spurs fan group estimated cost the club about three million pounds, the same amount as the chairman Daniel Levy’s annual bonus. Most people believe that these changes are revenue-driven rather than customer-oriented for the regular followers.

In a recent statement, the FSA emphasized the purpose of these upcoming protests: “The actions over the next two weeks are a direct response to the increases and attacks on preferential support at so many clubs.” The organization notes that increasing ticket prices is only one side of the story and continues as follows: ‘’Charging an additional one or two million fans is nonsense for clubs and will not contribute to the implementation of FFP because football has a spending issue, not an income issue.’’

The FSA also points out that ticket prices have emerged as the ‘primary reason’ for fans being locked out of the stadiums, but other costs are compounding it. Costs of food and beverages have continued to rise within stadiums, and clubs continue to design new jerseys for each season, and fans need to subscribe to different channels to follow their teams in different competitions. These additional costs are turning football financially unmanageable for many supporters.
