Rodri Injury: Manchester City Confirm Knee Ligament Damage, Star To Miss

Manchester City released information that playmaker Rodri suffered from a knee ligament injury and will be sidelined for a “long, long time,” according to Pep Guardiola. It happened in the 2-2 Premier League match against Arsenal, and first estimations indicate that Rodri might be out of the field for several months. This development is raising questions about Manchester City’s next games and, Manchester City ticket holders are worried about the team without the midfielder.

Rodri, 28, had to be substituted after a coming together with Arsenal’s Thomas Partey. Soon after, Manchester City came out with an official update about the injury, in which they announced an injury in the ligaments of Rodri’s right knee.

Guardiola told the media before the Carabao Cup match between Manchester City and Watford that he could not specify how long Rodri would be out. “We still have no idea of the finer points of the matter,” said Guardiola. “He will be out for a long time but it could be less than expected and there is hope for that.” We are still waiting for the doctors and all the specialists to give us the go-ahead on what will be done, maybe surgery.”

Rodri’s absence is a big loss to Manchester City because the team has not lost any match in the last 48 Premier League matches when the Spain international started the game. Rodri signed for City in the summer of 2019, and he has been Guardiola’s main midfielder in the last three seasons, helping the club to win four Premier League titles, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

For the fans who bought the Manchester City tickets, they will be hoping Manchester City can cope without the star midfielder. He has been essential in City’s domestic and European campaigns for the past two seasons. Guardiola was asked about Rodri and he admitted, “Rodri is a key player and it is a big loss for us that he will not be available for a long time now.” But it’s part of football, and we have to find a way to adapt and keep competing.”

Even in this case, Guardiola does not lose hope. “We have faced such odds before and I have confidence in my players,”
