Welsh's journey in football officiating has been remarkable, as she previously made headlines by becoming the first woman to officiate a match in the Championship (Second Division) in January last year. Her credentials include overseeing three matches in the previous edition of the World Cup, including a quarter-final showdown, and officiating in two FA Women's Cup finals in 2017 and 2020.
