Tottenham 1-0 AZ Alkmaar: Tottenham Hotspurs Remain Undefeated in Europa League

Tottenham maintained a perfect start in the Europa League with a 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, thanks to Richarlison’s penalty. This victory takes Spurs to second position in the League Phase table, equal to Lazio, with three games played. The game was very close, and a second-half substitute teenager, Mikey Moore, was instrumental in invigorating his north London team, ensuring they got all three points from this encounter.

Moore, who entered the game as a substitute, was subbed in at the break in Werner's place. His speed and dribbling ability caused problems for AZ’s backline and his participation led to the creation of Tottenham’s match-winning chance. It was a foul on Lucas Bergvall that led to the penalty, which Richarlison scored after arguing with James Maddison on who should take the penalty. Richarlison took a shot straight down the middle to take the lead and win the game for Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham was dominant in the last ten minutes of the match but AZ had several close calls that prevented them from getting out of this game with a point. Spurs wasted chances, and Moore blazed over his shot from the edge of the area after five minutes. Moore then put a dangerous cross and Brennan Johnson would have been in the middle had he delivered it a little earlier.

AZ put up a spirited fight, particularly after losing Ruben van Bommel in the 12th minute to an injury, for which Ernest Poku had to move to the left wing and pose the biggest danger for the home side. Spurs’ best opportunity to level matters was in the last quarter of an hour, when Troy Parrott, a former Spurs player, fed Mayckel Lahdo for a one-on-one chance. Substitute goalkeeper Fraser Forster did not budge though, and he brilliantly produced a save that would have resulted in a goal by Lahdo, and thus, Tottenham led the match.

With this victory, Tottenham continues their perfect start to the tournament so far, and they will be eyeing the same result when they next take on Galatasaray in their Europa league match. At the same time, AZ sits at the 24th position in the league table and is hoping to improve its position in the upcoming games.
