UEFA Champions League: Liverpool Beats RB Leipzig 1-0 to Remain Unbeaten in the Champions League

Liverpool maintained their perfect start in the Champions League by grinding out a 1-0 victory at the Red Bull Arena against RB Leipzig, and that was their third consecutive win in the group stage. The goal was scored by Darwin Nunez, who made a tap-in after Mo Salah attempted a header that was going off target. Leipzig had two goals ruled out for offside but Liverpool stood their ground, consolidating on the impressive run of Arne Slot.

Liverpool drew the first blood in the 27th minute when Nunez bundled Salah’s header into the net for his second goal of the season. The visitors could have doubled the lead a few minutes later when Virgil van Dijk headed the ball towards goal and the ball was palmed over the bar. Leipzig, although they occasionally tried to attack, were virtually bereft of a goal-scoring touch, and both of their goals were disallowed for offside.

Liverpool continued to dominate in the second half, and a great shot by Alexis Mac Allister hit the bar, with Kelleher making a good save from Benjamin Sesko’s shot in the final minutes. The champions’ fighting spirit made it possible for the Reds to emerge from the match with a win and stay with a 100% record in the Champions League league phase.

This win takes Liverpool to the top of the table with the same number of points as Aston Villa, who have also won all their matches. However, RB Leipzig will be up for a match in the Bundesliga against Freiburg on Saturday.
