Union Berlin vs Read Madrid: Can Real Madrid Maintain Their Second Place Today?

The highlights of this week’s UEFA Champions League include a match between Union Berlin and Real Madrid under the coaching command of Carlo Ancelotti. It is an important game since it takes place at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Tuesday.

At the moment the Union Berlin occupies 15th position in the Bundesliga, and their performance did not live up to the expectations of many people this year. They have however secured a significant victory over Borussia Monchengladbach to boost their morale before the coming match.

However, Real Madrid is faring better in La Liga, occupying position #2. It was a successful season for them. They however drew 1-1 with Real Betis last time round and will therefore want to do better in this week’s match.

Head-to-Head: Real Madrid vs Union Berlin

Union Berlin has never won a single game against Real Madrid in European competitions. However, Union Berlin, a one-match loser against a Spanish team in European competitions this year, with a 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid.

In the past, Real would typically falter in the league stage of the UEFA champions’ league against Germen club in faraway places. Despite, over the period they have done well getting six wins in 11 of these games in the tournament.

Union Berlin lost only three out of eleven home games in Europe. However, they have been defeated in their last two home games.

Real Madrid is targeting its first away treble in a decade in the Champions League group stage.

Can They Both Breach Their Defenses?

The defenses of both Union Berlin and Real Madrid have been exposed.

Union Berlin became more confident after winning 3-0 during their last weekend’s Bundesliga match against Monchengladbach. They won’t have won a Champion Leagues at the same time, but will do everything possible to get this competition. Their last game saw them have three separate players contribute goals and I’m sure they will be aiming for that also in this match.

Real Madrid is renowned for their attacking proficiency and they have already netted 13 goals in the competition at an average rate of 2.6 goals per match. They have quality players such as Bellingham and Rodrygo despite some recent injuries as they can score in the recent weeks.

How is the Match Looking Like?

The weak points in the defenses of both Union Berlin and Real Madrid.

On the back of their 3-0 Bundesliga victory over Monchengladbach in the previous weekend, the union gained a lot of confidence. Although they have not won the Champions league, they will still strive to take part in this great tournament. In their last match they had three different goal scorers, while they will be hoping to score in this match as well.

Real Madrid has a very good strike rate and has netted thirteen goals, which is equivalent to 2.6 goals per encounter. These may include Bellingham and Rodrygo who are in form of scoring despite some injuries.

Team News: Real Madrid

It would not be a surprise if Ancelotti allows some players from his team to play in the match as Real Madrid has qualified to the next stage of the competition by now.

Some key players for Real Madrid are out of action due to injuries such as Eder Miliato and Thibaut Courtois, among others. Additionally, this might result in most of the missing matches in December for the team.

This offers Union Berlin hope of the required result and makes a rare occurrence favorable. Real Madrid have qualified for the Champions league hence Union Berlin can surprise people with a good outcome of the match considering these injuries.
