Wolves vs Tottenham: Can Wolves Win Today!

Wolves are trying to recover from a disappointing loss, especially after being the first team defeated by Sheffield United this season. In that match, Gary O'Neil's team almost managed a draw when Jean-Ricner Bellegarde equalized Cameron Archer's goal. However, a controversial decision led to Oliver Norwood's winning penalty, given against Wolves for a supposed foul by Fabio Silva on George Baldock. Wolves are aiming to avoid further VAR controversies and plan to use their fast attackers to challenge Tottenham's temporary defense.

Meanwhile, Tottenham and their manager Ange Postecoglou have had a tough week. They lost their first Premier League game under Postecoglou against Chelsea, a chaotic match that ended 4-1 with two of their players, Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie, getting red cards, and five goals being disallowed. Adding to their troubles, James Maddison and Micky van de Ven, two key players, are injured until next year. This leaves Tottenham in a challenging position for their upcoming games.

Let’s look into the match highlights today:

First-half begins!!

  • In the 1st minute, following a perfectly respected minute of silence to commemorate Armistice Day, the game starts at Molineux Stadium. Hwang takes the first kick for the home team.
  • In the 3rd minute, Spurs score an early goal thanks to Johnson! It's an impressive beginning for the team, despite missing some key players. Tottenham skillfully moved the ball from one side to the other, with Kulusevski setting up the play using a clever backheel pass to Porro. Porro then delivers a low cross, which Johnson meets with perfect timing at the near post. The ex-Nottingham Forest player confidently directs the ball past Sa, giving Tottenham a 1-0 lead within just three minutes!
  • In the 6th minute, Tottenham is maintaining strong control of the game with a confident start, keeping most of the possession and not allowing Wolves many opportunities to engage. Emerson Royal, playing as a left-back, is strategically moving inward to reinforce Tottenham's midfield, contributing to their dominant performance.
  • In the 11th minute, opportunity for Wolves! Ait-Nouri starts a promising move by passing the ball to Cunha and then swiftly advances forward to receive the return pass. He makes it to the penalty area and unleashes a low shot. However, Davies quickly moves to intercept, blocking the shot and sending it out for a corner. This shows a significant improvement from Wolves in their offensive efforts.
  • In the 14th minute, Lemina has recovered and seems ready to keep playing. The game has been fast-paced from the start – Wolves had a rough beginning but have recently gained momentum, increasingly challenging Tottenham's temporary defense with their energized play.
  • In the 17th minute, another poorly executed corner by Bellegarde is easily headed away by Porro at the near post. This marks the second time in the match that Bellegarde, who has taken over set-piece responsibilities from Doyle for this game, has failed to deliver a threatening corner.
  • In the 21st minute, Porro is now down because of Gomes.
  • In the 30th minute, Hojbjerg falls to the ground after being challenged by Ait-Nouri near the right side of Wolves' penalty area. Despite appearing to be fouled, the referee decides to award a goal-kick to Wolves instead of a free-kick to Tottenham. This decision suggests the referee didn't see enough in the challenge to warrant a foul in favor of Spurs.
  • In the 33rd minute, great save! In a quick move, Semedo brings the ball inside and passes it to Cunha, who then quickly gives it to Lemina on his right. Lemina, after making his way into the box, aims for the bottom-left corner with his shot. Vicario, however, makes a crucial save by diving down to deflect the ball away from the goal. This attempt by Lemina is the closest Wolves have come to scoring in the match.
  • In the 37th minute, it’s saved, but offside! Gomes gains control of the ball just outside the Tottenham penalty area and then sends a pass through to Ait-Nouri. Ait-Nouri quickly fires a low shot, but it's stopped by Vicario's legs. However, the linesman raises the flag for offside against Ait-Nouri. Cunha expresses his frustration, indicating that Ait-Nouri should have let the ball pass through to him instead.
  • In the 40th minute, Hwang is called offside as Kilman attempts to launch him into a clear position, but it seems that Davies might not have been in a position to enforce the offside. Wolves are creating good opportunities against Tottenham's temporary squad, and it's important for them to make the most of this advantageous phase in the game. There are just five minutes left until the half-time break.
  • In the 45th minute, Emerson Royal commits a clear foul by taking down Semedo near the right corner of the Tottenham penalty area, and as a result, he receives a yellow card. This gives Wolves a valuable opportunity to swing a free-kick into the area, potentially creating a chance to score.
  • In the 45+2 minute, Bellegarde's corner kick reaches Lemina at the back post, who then forcefully heads the ball. However, it goes over the goal, deflected off Davies. This moment adds to the host team's current pressure, raising the question of whether Wolves can capitalize on this period of intense play and turn it into a scoring opportunity.
  • In the 45+4 minute, Bissouma receives the second yellow card of the match for a late tackle on Lemina in the midfield area. This indicates a more stringent approach by the referee towards rough play in the game.
  • In the 45+5 minute, Tottenham secures a corner kick towards the end of the first half. The opportunity arises when Dier passes the ball to Kulusevski, whose cross is deflected behind the goal line by Ait-Nouri. Porro then steps up to take the corner. He delivers the set-piece, but Davies, attempting to redirect the ball at the near post, ends up sending it well wide of the target.

Second-half begins!!

  • In the 47th minute, Bellegarde misses a great opportunity! He skillfully lifts the ball over Emerson Royal and charges at the Tottenham defense, who retreat. With the option to pass to teammates on either side, he instead chooses to take a shot from outside the penalty area. Unfortunately, his attempt is wayward, soaring over the crossbar. In this situation, passing to Hwang or Cunha, who were in better positions, would have been a more effective choice.
  • In the 53rd minute, Wolves have a big opportunity! Toti skillfully moves the ball from defense, exchanging passes with Gomes and then passing to Ait-Nouri on the left. Ait-Nouri cuts back the ball to Cunha, who is near the penalty area. However, Cunha's attempt at a goal is clumsy and misses Vicario's goal to the side.
  • In the 59th minute, Wolves earn a corner on the right side after Semedo's ground cross hits Davies and rolls out of play. Vicario couldn't stop it from going out. Let's see if Wolves can capitalize on this corner opportunity.
  • In the 62nd minute, excellent defensive play! Bellegarde sends a tempting cross into the six-yard box, and it seems certain that Dawson will head it in. But Sarr intervenes with a fantastic defensive header to clear the ball. Spurs also successfully handle the corner that follows.
  • In the 64th minute, Postecoglou decides to bring in Bentancur, replacing Sarr, in an effort to regain control of the match.
  • In the 67th minute, Wolves make a direct substitution at right-back, with Doherty coming on to replace Semedo.
  • In the 72nd minute, it’s an opportunity arises! Doherty sends in a cross that's cleared before reaching Hwang. Then, Spurs quickly switch from defense to offense. Hojbjerg and Son play a quick one-two pass sequence. Hojbjerg then tries to find Johnson in the center. However, Johnson's immediate shot from 20 yards out doesn't challenge Sa, the goalkeeper. During the attempt, the Welsh forward Johnson falls, possibly due to cramp, but he quickly gets back up.
  • In the 73rd minute, O'Neil brings on Kalajdzic, a tall striker at six feet seven inches, as Wolves look to equalize. Bellegarde is taken off, which shifts Cunha into a more supportive role in the team's strategy.
  • In the 77th minute, we can see impressive goalkeeping! Sa quickly comes off his line to gather a stray ball before Kulusevski can exploit it to break through. The Wolves' goalkeeper remains on the ground for a moment, clutching his face after Kulusevski's shin accidentally hits him, but he quickly recovers and gets back on his feet.’
  • In the 81st minute, it’s a huge opportunity for Wolves! Cunha, after a strong run, slips a pass through for Lemina. Lemina has the chance to shoot but instead chooses to cut the ball back to Doherty from the left of the six-yard box. Davies makes an excellent sliding intervention to avert the threat. This moment really represents Wolves' efforts in the attacking third of the pitch - they need to capitalize on such chances!
  • In the 85th minute, yet another big miss for Wolves! Their corner doesn't lead to anything, but Gomes quickly gets another opportunity to send in a cross from the left. He finds Kalajdzic at the near post, but Kalajdzic's sense of direction falters and he ends up sending a clumsy header over the goal. Wolves have been quite inefficient in making the most of their opportunities in the final third of the pitch.
  • In the 87th minute, O'Neil is making two more substitutions as Wolves urgently seek to score an equalizer. Sarabia comes in for Gomes, in what appears to be an attacking change.
  • In the 89th minute, it's nearly the end of the game! Spurs counter-attack Wolves and get two opportunities to seal the win. Initially, Son takes a shot from the edge of the box, but it hits Dawson. Then, Kulusevski retrieves the rebound and sets up Lo Celso. Lo Celso aims for the top-left corner of the goal, but Sa manages to tip it over the bar. Interestingly, this is Spurs' first shot on target since Johnson's goal in the third minute.
  • In the 90+1 minute, it’s a goal for Wolves! Sarabia equalizes right after the 90-minute mark, giving Wolves the much-needed goal! Cunha delivers a fantastic ball over the Spurs defense to Sarabia, who controls it beautifully with his right foot and then fires a volley with his left, beating Vicario in the goal. It's a stunning strike and brings the score to 1-1 at Molineux!
  • In the 90+4 minute, the situation on the field is getting heated, and it seems like the referee might be struggling to maintain control. Cunha is brought down by Lo Celso, which is followed by Doherty committing a late tackle that results in a yellow card. Cunha is visibly upset, venting his frustration at the fourth official about the decision.
  • In the 90+5 minute, Son and Dawson get tangled and both end up on the ground. However, the free kick is awarded to Spurs as Dawson accidentally hits Son with his boot in the scuffle. This incident results in a yellow card for Dawson, which unfortunately means he will face a one-match suspension.
  • In the 90+7 minute, it’s goal for Wolves! In an incredible turn of events, Wolves have taken the lead! Lemina scores, creating a remarkable scene. It all starts with Doyle's quick free-kick, which enables Sarabia to sprint down the wing. Coming off the bench, Sarabia cuts inside and delivers a low cross into the box. Lemina gets ahead of the Spurs defense and manages to direct a low shot into the bottom-left corner of the goal. This goal triggers ecstatic celebrations at Molineux, with Wolves now leading 2-1!
  • In the 90+9 minute, during the intense celebrations at Molineux, Gomes, who had been substituted earlier, received a yellow card. Ait-Nouri, along with Gomes, also received a booking. Both players, despite being substituted, ran back onto the pitch to join in the celebrations as Wolves achieved a stunning turnaround!

Finally, the match ends, and Molineux erupts into even more ecstatic celebrations as the full-time whistle blows. In a dramatic turn of events, Wolves have scored two goals in stoppage time, leading to a surprising defeat for Tottenham. This match was a rollercoaster, especially since Johnson's early goal seemed to set the tone for a Tottenham win.

Wolves had missed numerous opportunities, with Hwang and Kalajdzic notably failing to convert clear chances in the second half. However, the late substitution of Sarabia proved to be a game-changer. His equalizing goal in stoppage time was a superb strike, followed by his crucial assist in the 97th minute when his cross found Lemina, who scored the winning goal. It was a remarkable comeback by Wolves!
