Galatasaray lead the 2025/26 Super Lig under head coach Okan Buruk, chasing a fourth consecutive title. Fenerbahce, managed by Domenico Tedesco, are the only unbeaten team in the league but have been held back by nine draws in their opening 24 matches, leaving them four points behind Galatasaray. Trabzonspor sit in third place and remain the primary challenger to the two Istanbul clubs.
Galatasaray have been strengthened by winter signing Noa Lang, who made an immediate impact with two assists on his debut, and by the continued goalscoring of Victor Osimhen. Fenerbahce made a marquee signing by bringing in N'Golo Kante from Al-Ittihad, with the former Chelsea and Leicester midfielder making his debut in February 2026. The final weeks of the season, including the Intercontinental Derby at the Turk Telekom Stadium on 26 April, will likely determine the destination of the title.
The 2025/26 season runs from 8 August 2025 to 17 May 2026, with each of the 18 clubs playing 34 matches. The first half of the season concluded on 22 December 2025, with the second half starting on 16 January 2026. Matches are typically played from Friday to Monday, with the majority scheduled over weekends. The season is named after the former Trabzonspor president Mehmet Ali Yilmaz.

The Super Lig (Trendyol Super Lig for sponsorship reasons) is the top tier of the Turkish football league system. Founded in 1959 as the Milli Lig, it was rebranded as the Super Lig in 2001. Eighteen clubs compete across a 34-match season, with three clubs relegated to the TFF First League and three promoted each year. The league is run by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) and currently ranks 9th in the UEFA coefficient ranking of European leagues.
Only six clubs have won the Super Lig title since its founding in 1959: Galatasaray (25), Fenerbahce (19), Besiktas (16), Trabzonspor (7), Basaksehir (1) and Bursaspor (1). A total of 75 clubs have competed in the league over its history. The "Big Three" of Istanbul (Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas) are the only clubs to have competed in every season since the league's inception and have never been relegated.

The Turkish Football Federation reduced the league from 19 teams to 18 ahead of the 2025/26 season, a decision confirmed on 16 April 2025. This meant four clubs were relegated from the 2024/25 season (Adana Demirspor, Sivasspor, Bodrum FK and Hatayspor) while only three were promoted. Adidas replaced Puma as the official match ball supplier for the new season.
The three promoted clubs for 2025/26 are Kocaelispor, Genclerbirligi and Fatih Karagumruk. Kocaelispor returned after 16 seasons away from the top flight, Genclerbirligi after four years (restoring the capital city Ankara's representation in the Super Lig after a one-season absence) and Fatih Karagumruk after one season in the second tier.
Turkish football traces its roots to the late 19th century, when the sport was introduced by Englishmen living in the Ottoman Empire. The Istanbul Football League, founded in 1904/05, was the first organised competition. Regional leagues in Ankara, Izmir and other cities followed throughout the 1920s. The first national championship, the Turkish Football Championship, began in 1924 as a knockout tournament between regional league winners.
The modern league era began in 1959 with the creation of the Milli Lig, a national league featuring 16 clubs from Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Fenerbahce won the inaugural title. The league was rebranded as the Super Lig in 2001 when a new second division (TFF 1. Lig) was introduced. Over the decades, the league has expanded from three cities to feature clubs from across the country, though Istanbul remains home to the majority of the top clubs.
Before the national league, Turkish football was organised through regional leagues in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, plus a knockout national championship (1924-1951) and a short-lived Federation Cup (1956-1958). These competitions are not officially counted as Super Lig titles by the TFF, though their recognition remains a contested issue among Turkish clubs.
The Milli Lig launched in 1959 with 16 clubs. A second division was created in 1963. For four decades, the top flight was known as the 1. Lig (First League). Two points were awarded for a win until the 1987/88 season, when the three-point rule was introduced.
The league was rebranded as the Super Lig from the 2001/02 season, coinciding with the creation of a new 1. Lig as the second tier. The league operated with varying numbers of clubs (typically 18-20) before being fixed at 18 from 2025/26. Modern stadium investment across Turkey has transformed the matchday experience, with purpose-built arenas replacing older multi-purpose grounds at many clubs.

Galatasaray hold the record with 25 Super Lig titles, including a record 102 points in the 2023/24 season and four consecutive titles from 1996/97 to 1999/2000. Besiktas remain the only club to have completed an unbeaten league season (1991/92). Bursaspor's 2010 title was historic as the first won by a club from outside Istanbul, and Basaksehir became the sixth champion in 2020. Fenerbahce won the inaugural Super Lig title in 1959 and hold 19 titles, though they have not been champions since 2013/14.
Super Lig broadcast rights are held by beIN Sports, which renewed its deal with the TFF in March 2024 for three years until 2027 at a cost of $182 million per year. This makes the Super Lig the sixth most valuable football league in the world by broadcast revenue, behind only the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1. Matches are available internationally through beIN Sports' global network.
Hospitality and VIP packages are available at select Super Lig stadiums, most notably at the three major Istanbul venues: Turk Telekom Stadium, Sukru Saracoglu Stadium and Vodafone Park. These typically include premium seating in a private box or club section, access to a lounge with pre-match dining and drinks, and dedicated entrances that bypass general queues. Demand for hospitality is highest for the Intercontinental Derby and the end-of-season title deciders.
International supporters are an increasingly visible presence at Super Lig matches, particularly at the Istanbul clubs. If you are travelling from overseas, pay attention to the delivery type on each listing (mobile transfer, e-ticket or physical post). Turkish stadiums use the Passolig electronic ticketing system, which may require registration.
