
Morocco is planning to build the largest football stadium in the world, to be known as the Grand Stade Hassan II, in Casablanca. This design was unveiled during the meeting of the 2030 World Cup organizing committee in Marrakech and is derived from the Moussem tents of Morocco. This stadium with a seating capacity of one hundred and fifteen thousand people will be the largest stadium in Morocco and the largest stadium in the world by a distance; the current largest stadium in Morocco is the Ibn Batouta Stadium which has a seating capacity of about sixty-five thousand people.
While the construction of the stadium was done by China Construction First Group Co Ltd, the architectural design was done by the internationally recognized firm Populous and this was incorporated with a large roof over the stands in a move that was inspired by the Moroccan culture. The project with a total value of about 5. 1 billion dirhams (around $520 million) is characterized by vast infrastructural improvements in the Casablanca-Settat area which is conducive for fans and efficient in the organization of events. Other eminent personalities include Morocco’s Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit, FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa, Governor of the Casablanca-Settat region Mohamed M’hidia, and many more.
Construction is due to start in August 2024 and the stadium should be ready by 2028. the Grand Stade Hassan II will mainly host the Moroccan national team. This project under the leadership of King Mohammed VI is set to be the biggest and most magnificent football stadium in the world.
