Borussia Dortmund Tickets

As one of the football clubs under the elite Bundesliga banner, Borussia Dortmund is considered one of the premiere football clubs in Germany today. It is one of the most successful clubs in German football history, having won the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, and the Intercontinental Cup once respectively. Their win in the 1966 Cup Winners’ Cup was particularly historical, as it was the first time a German club had ever won a European title.

In addition, the club has also collected important titles in the German Championships, the DFL-Supercups, and the DFB-Pokals.

Team History

Dortmund was among the first 16 teams to play in the Bundesliga upon its inception in 1962. Three years later, the club won its first ever DF-Pokal, and the year after, they won the European Cup Winners’ Cup, against famed English club Liverpool. The team’s rise to prominence continued in 1993, when the club reached the UEFA Cup final.

They would go on to lose to Juventus 6-1 on aggregate. However, the club gained a significant consolation prize in the form of DM 25 million prize money, which it handily used to sign newer players. This proved to be the turning point, as the new recruits would bring numerous honours to the club at the turn of the 1990s.

Golden Age

The Borussia Dortmund Football Club continued to climb up the ranks under the leadership of Matthias Sammer, who was name European Footballer of the Year in 1996. The moment to shine came in 1997, when the team faced Juventus in the UEFA Champions League held at Olympiastadion in Munich.

Through brilliant teamwork and strategy, the Germans were able to score a 3-1 victory of the boys from Italy to raise the trophy. The magical run continued for the German team as it went on to win against Brazilian club Cruzeiro in the 1997 Intercontinental Cup Final to claim the title World Champions.

The Team

Mats Hummels and Marco Reus, Team Captain and Vice-Captain respectively, will be leading the charge for the club, which will once again rely on a balanced attack founded on superior team work, coordination, and precision playmaking in order to overcome opponents.

The team will be guided by Thomas Tuchel, who replaced storied team manager Jürgen Klopp. Tuchel will be expected to bring a fresh perspective to the club as well as new strategies that will effectively maximise flow and teamwork for the team’s campaigns in the coming seasons.
